Advocacy

OMTRA’s vision is to be the leading voice of Ontario’s municipal tax and revenue professionals by advocating in the interests of our members. OMTRA is committed to strengthening members’ voices by interacting with various organizations and levels of government.
OMTRA’s Legislative Committee has been engaging with members to determine what issues matter most and are engaging with various stakeholders. Some of the most recent engagements are listed below:
Call for Provincial Reassessment
The Legislative Committee has been actively engaged in addressing a matter that is both significant and long overdue. A follow-up letter was recently submitted to the Honourable Minister of Finance, outlining the urgent need for comprehensive provincial reassessment. This correspondence outlines the critical need for timely action and presents a case for greater equity and responsiveness in provincial governance.
Proposed Amendment to Ontario Regulation 355/22
In addition to our ongoing advocacy, the Committee has advanced a resolution in support of the City of Ottawa and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) regarding an important regulatory change.
The requested amendment to Ontario Regulation 355/22 under the Highway Traffic Act seeks to:
- Improve municipal revenue collection
- Increase compliance within the provincial offences system
- Promote fairness and administrative efficiency
