Advocacy at OMTRA
OMTRA is the voice of Ontario’s municipal tax and revenue professionals — bringing frontline experience into conversations that shape policy, legislation, and system improvement across the province.
We work collaboratively with government, agencies, and sector partners to ensure municipal perspectives are understood, represented, and acted upon. Our advocacy is grounded in what matters most to our members — real challenges, real insights, and real solutions.
What We Do
We advocate for practical, informed change that strengthens municipal revenue systems and supports the professionals who manage them.
This includes:
- Engaging with provincial ministries and agencies
- Providing input on legislation, regulations, and system design
- Gathering and amplifying member insights
- Working with sector partners to drive meaningful improvements
Our Current Focus
OMTRA is actively engaged in several key areas that affect municipalities across Ontario:
Advocating for a modern, fair, and transparent property assessment system — including the need for a province-wide reassessment and ongoing system improvements.
Supporting updates to legislation and regulations that improve compliance, streamline processes, and enhance the collection and administration of Municipal Taxation, Utility Billing, Provincial Offences, the Administrative Penalty System and other revenue collection.
Working with partners to provide feedback on systems like Municipal Connect, ICON ensuring they meet the evolving operational needs of municipalities.
Advocating for improved access to assessment and provincial data so reporting, analysis, and collection tools are more accurate and effective.
