Valuation Methodology for Landfills for Taxation Purposes Update

The Ministry of Finance retained the services of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), with John Wilkinson leading the PwC team.  Mr. Wilkinson was tasked with reviewing the potential options for assessing landfills and making recommendations on an appropriate methodology for the 2016 reassessment cycle.

Based on consultations with municipalities and taxpayer representatives, Mr. Wilkinson has submitted a report on the Landfill Assessment Methodology Review, which contains his findings and recommendations.  The report is posted on the Assessment Review web page at http://www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/consultations/par/

The Minister of Finance has accepted the report’s recommendations and has directed staff at the Ministry to move forward with the implementation of the recommendations in the report.
